Every Angelo fan knows that when October approaches, it means the Angelo anniversary concert is coming soon, also known as the “Tenshi no Hi” (Angel’s day) on October 4th. This time celebrated in the Sonic City Hall with limited attendance capped at 1200 attendees, this is around half of the capacity of this hall and we were able to notice that because there seemed to be a seat of separation between each attendee.
Overseas fans are blessed with the fact that this concert was transmitted through the streaming platform ZAIKO that Angelo has been using for their concerts since the pandemic started.
The concert itself was very emotive, we can see there’s a lot more flexibility and the band now is able to perform with free of movement in the stage, we even have moments of closeness between Kirito and Kohta, Karyu and Giru, the audience is much more active, they were still unable to utter any sound, but now they could clap and cheer more freely than in previous concerts; I was able to feel the usual energy and power from Angelo concerts that we are so used to feel, and which is definitely one of their wonderful assets as a band.

For me, a setlist always represents the intentions of a concert, and this was no exception, we have songs from all the albums that Angelo has released since RETINA, with the exception of “光の記憶” which is included very often in many Angelo concerts, this was a great selection for an anniversary concert. I was also very please to have “報いの虹” just before the new song “evolve”, since “報いの虹” is a song that represent a new path, it’s a great way to hand over towards the new song after preparing our hearts for it; the new song itself has a very experimental approach, Angelo continues to explore synth sounds and unconventional patterns in songs, so it’s very refreshing.
Another surprise was “FAITH”, this song is not performed that often in recent Angelo concerts, so it was a great way to make some fans jump in awe with this song; out of the total 19 songs, there were 6 songs from their latest album FAUST, which totally makes sense because it’s the most recent work, so it’s normal to feature many songs from there, however I would have loved “SCENE” or “JIHAD” to be selected as well.
From RESONANCE, I’ve noticed the songs “ACTIVATE RESONATE” and “CRUELWORLD” have become favorite songs in Angelo setlists, so I am always glad whenever these songs are performed, one which drives clapping from the audience, and the other with very relevant lyrics.
During some of Kirito’s talks with the audience, he mentions that sometimes it’s necessary to take risks, so I am sure the new album will bring a lot of surprises. Kirito reminds us that the upcoming album will release in November 11th as planned, but the title of the album has not been decided yet.
The autumn nationwide tour was also announced with a reduced amount of presentations as previous tours, but it’s definitely a sign of going back into normal, this time the tour name is “THE FORCED EVOLVE”, which rings many bells with the new song name, and it will have 8 dates, out of these dates, 3 of them will be streamed online via Zaiko, the first one and the 2 closing ones, so the overseas fans will have the opportunity to enjoy these concerts as well.
