Translation notes: in this point of the story, we can interpret that after a lot of introspect that occurred in the 2 previous songs, our protagonist (Faust) has come to the point of understanding very well how the world works and the consequences of the contract. The song starts with a reference to the very famous “butterfly effect” theory that explains that a very small change or alteration in something can lead to very big and maybe unexpected consequences.
The doubts that the protagonist have cause a chain reaction, as the “butterfly effect” theory explains, these small doubts can lead toward the destruction of the world, and there is someone that pretends to smile accidentally, we can interpret this is the god (Mephisto) who already knows what the outcome will be, because he has seen the process of rebirth that the world goes through whenever those worlds reach the point of destruction, which is caused by the mistakes and sins committed by those humans.
We see that the world goes through this process of rebirth, where humans are improved, this is described as the “chromosomes getting revised” or corrected, and giving birth to humans who are stronger after they failed in the previous world, this is why we can assume that there were other humans like Faust in those previous worlds, and this is why the god knows what to expect, the only difference is that each time the humans become stronger, and this is probably interesting for this god, he is playing with them after all, as if he’s watching a show of how the humans struggle.
The more Faust realizes the true meaning of this contract, the more painful it becomes, and we can see another “butterfly effect” when he refers to the fissures that happen to his values, which goes from just being a fissure, to becoming a big crack that can cause the destruction of his world.
The protagonist now understands that after you accept the contract, you pay a painful price that you cannot retract from that easily, because you already destroyed something or “gave up your soul” as it is described in the 2 first songs, but I think this can also be a figurative way of saying that you committed sins and you cannot simply erase what you did, maybe you can start over from scratch, but not erase what happened already.
In summary, now Faust has clear understanding of the true consequences of the contract and how the world works and how this is a form of entertainment for this god, so now Faust is totally ready to confront this creator the next time that the worlds meet across the dimensions, please look forward to what happens next in the 2 remaining songs! the protagonist either survives or will face destruction like the humans from the previous worlds.
